The Divine Nine Greek Plaza Campaign, a student-recommended idea, asks and encourages each Greek letter organization to subscribe to its individual Greek letter plot within the Plaza by organizing a fundraising drive amongst its members to generate $110,000 for the campaign.
While the campaign is an on-going initiative, and organizations are continuing to fundraise in hopes of achieving the $110,000 target, we are proud to celebrate two organizations that have well exceeded goals set by the University; Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. and Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.
In celebration of both organizations’ Founders’ Day, brick pavers purchased throughout the campaign were permanently placed in their individual Greek letter plots, perpetually etching donors’ place in Hampton University and Greek letter organization history.
In honor of this achievement, during the week of Founders’ Day, members gathered at the Plaza to fellowship and bask in the glory of their hard-work, dedication and commitment to the University.
“Alpha Kappa Alpha is pleased to unveil the Divine Nine Greek Plaza project on its national Founders’ Day as we celebrate 108 years of service to all mankind,” remarked Michelle Taylor, Alpha Kappa Alpha Campaign Leader, “And, we wish to thank all individuals who made this effort a success.”
“We are also extremely proud to have led by example and partnered with our sisters and brothers in Hampton Greek life to lead, and ensure the fiscal solvency, and longevity of “Our Home by the Sea,” stated Dr. Reanee Ivey Ellis, Delta Sigma Theta Campaign Leader.
To date, each organization has raised over $240,000 for Hampton University. Money in excess of the $110,000 fundraising goal will go towards establishing a scholarship fund in the name of each organization respectively for current students to matriculate.
