Hampton University’s second annual Philanthropy and Pirate Pride Online Giving Day was held Thursday, November 20, 2014.   Pre-Alumni Council (PAC) students and alumni alike showed their Pirate Pride by participating in community service projects and by giving of their financial resources to help sustain the University.

Philanthropy Day gives PAC an opportunity to give back to the Hampton Roads community and connect with alumni through Pirate Pride Online Giving Day. This year, students began their day of service at Crittenden Middle School in Newport News, where they read to and shared college experiences with sixth graders in hopes of inspiring dreams of one day attending college, too.  After a great day at Crittenden Middle School, students volunteered at North Hampton Convalescent Center where they served ice cream and played games with patients during an ice cream social. Students also participated in the Annual Fund’s Thank-a-Thon by making phone calls to over 100 alumni and friends who answered the call to give during our second annual day of giving.

While we are excited about the outcome of Philanthropy and Pirate Pride Online Giving Day, we still have a long way to go. Currently, our alumni giving percentage rate is significantly lower than other HBCUs. With an alumni giving percentage rate of just 18 percent compared to Spelman’s 43 percent, we still have more work to do.

Annual giving helps sustains Hampton University for generations to come.

Thank you for answering our call and helping keep Hampton Strong!
